I started taking Pilates with Clea a year and half ago, and it wasn’t long before I (and my husband) noticed the change in my body. I’ve never been able to get a visibly strong stomach, no matter how much I ran (usually 5-6 miles 4-5 days a week) or did crunches. Since I started Pilates, not only has my stomach become more defined, but my entire body is leaner. I’m 6 months pregnant now and I’ve continued my regular sessions with Clea. It has been a huge factor in how good I’ve felt the whole time and how my weight and shape have really stayed under control. I attribute it all to Clea!

I got hooked on Pilates a little while ago and actually never thought it would be for me. I’m a very active person in life and in sport, so I need to challenge myself all the time. I thought I would give it a try since I heard so many great things about it, so my friend introduced me to Clea. She is the sweetest girl you would ever meet and an hour with her makes your whole day! I never thought that Pilates could be so challenging. It’s a great way to learn how to breathe right and keep good posture. And of course it’s a great, great workout. You see your body changing every day, getting leaner and stronger. You start to feel better every day, being more confident in yourself.

Clea is truly amazing; she understands me so well, my mood, my needs, and prepares a workout so when I leave the session I feel like a million dollars! Plus she always kicks my ass, which I love most of all!

Clea understands my goals and knows exactly what to do and what my body needs to reach them. I call her the “eagle eye” because she doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to form in any of the challenging exercises she gives me. Clea Starkes literally changed my life, not only by her excellent professional work but by inspiring and invigorating me, making me feel younger, stronger and fitter. I keep telling myself that aging is all in the mind, but I have to be realistic, it’s in the body and the bones too. As a woman in her 60’s, working with Clea has been a godsend. I truly feel younger and certainly longer. Clea is gentle with me, but wonderfully persistent. She has really made a difference with my core. It’s so much stronger. Clea is a beautiful person and an extraordinary Pilates instructor. I hope to be with her for many years to come and grow old gracefully, or thanks to her, maybe not grow old (or at least shorter) at all!

P.S. I’ve worked with several Pilates instructors over the years but I’m still with Clea because she really watches my every move and is “on me” about form constantly, but never a pain in the neck, for she is such a lovely person.

Clea has a very sweet and gentle demeanor, but when it comes to training, her sessions are always very challenging. She is always very clear about form and how to properly execute the exercises. I’ve learned so much about form and how I use my body when exercising. After training with Clea, I was able to take that knowledge back to the gym and make serious improvements weight lifting without injuring myself.

I absolutely hate to work out. It’s the honest truth. That being said, I knew before I got pregnant with my daughter that I wanted to put myself on an exercise routine that I would stick to, both before her birth and after. Clea was my solution! Her energetic personality and motivational style encouraged me to stick with Pilates until just before my daughter was born, and then got me going again shortly afterwards.

Clea was also wonderful at customizing a program for me that took into consideration that I had a knee with a reconstructed ACL. After some time off from Pilates due to work/life balance issues I am now starting up with Pilates again. Yes, with Clea! She was so supportive of me taking time for my family when I needed to, and she is just as supportive now that I am ready to start again. I first started working with Clea in the spring of 2004 and I’ve been hooked since our first workout together. Not only is every session challenging, but we always have fun and the workouts fly. I’ve worked with a few other private trainers and have always been disappointed—nobody comes even close to Clea! I enjoy a pretty intense workout (Clea might say that’s an understatement!) and no one has challenged me more. She is innovative with her workouts and is always pushing me to the next level, never ceasing to be upbeat and encouraging. I am now 8 months pregnant and have been working with Clea twice a week throughout my pregnancy. She has modified my workouts appropriately, but has kept me strong and healthy. I truly look forward to our sessions together and have never found a better, more intense workout with real results.
